Export restrictions
Some antique, artistic, archaeological, archival or culturally significant objects may require an export licence before they can be sent from Finland.
Why review is sometimes required
Finnish and European Union rules protect certain categories of cultural objects. Where an object falls into a sensitive category — for example paintings, drawings, prints, manuscripts, rare books, archaeological objects, religious and ethnographic objects, important furniture, historic scientific instruments, coins, medals, or objects connected to Finnish national history — an export licence may be needed before it can leave the country.
How we handle it
Objects that may require review are flagged on the product page and at checkout with an Export review required status. International shipping is confirmed individually rather than accepted automatically. Where a permit is required, we apply on your behalf or, in some cases, restrict the object to shipping within Finland or the EU.
What this means for you
- Some objects may only be sent within Finland or within the EU.
- Delivery for objects under review is confirmed after the review is complete.
- We do not claim that no licence is required simply because an object is inexpensive.
